Hey Victory Garden Team! Let's get started in 2012 pending an expected approval by the Collierville Christian Church for 2012. We finished 2012 having grown and given to the needy 4,401 pounds of fresh tasty veggies and many cut flowers to Trinity Hospice, Apple Grove, and Page Robbins.
We continue this year to be more than adequately funded from a nice donation last year!!!
I am putting together lists of volunteers for upcoming work days in the veggie garden. Please RSVP to me which you can help with.
We have a zinnia cut flower garden team which would welcome more help, as well as a spring garden team which is planning and growing the spring garden plants and would also welcome help.
It is a new year so you will need to sign a 2012 liability release form (as required by our gracious host Collierville Christian Church). I will attach a form to this email and leave some blank ones in our mailbox.
You will need to bring your own water and gloves and any tools you think that might help. I advise marking your name on the handle of your tools. You can work any or all of the work time.
All dates and times are Lord willing and subject to the weather.
Saturday Feb 25 8am-noon:
Till/pulverize the leaves in the garden.
Use garden fork to loosen the soil in the entire garden except the garlic and asparagus.
Use hoes and garden rakes to pull the soil from the middles onto the raised beds.
Add more leaves to the bare middles from the leaf pile.
Move the compost pile into the raised beds.
Plant sweet peas and onions.
Monday March 19 4-7 pm after St Paddy's Day:
Plant the spring garden: red potatoes, cabbage, lettuce, chard, kale, radishes, carrots, etc, in the back two plots.
Monday April 30 4-7pm and Saturday May 5 8am noon:
Plant the summer garden tomatoes, peas, beans, peppers, melons.
From then on we will be working most Monday evenings 5-7pm.
Thanks,

The Collierville Victory Garden and Butterfly Haven is committed to the Memphis Area Master Gardeners' mission to pass on the joy of gardening and UT Extension horticultural knowledge. Through the generosity of the Collierville Christian Church and MAMG, this Plant-A-Row for the Hungry (PAR) garden donates its vegetables to the Collierville Food Pantry, Resurrection Catholic School and Fayette County Project Outreach and its flowers to Page Robbins and Habitat for Humanity.

Most hospice relies in the community. Supporting events that would raise money for these facilities would be a great help for the people who are under hospice care
