Work day last Saturday and this week.

Last Saturday Feb 25 2012 me and seven garden angels got a lot of hard work done in the Victory Garden: In Sung, Ginger Hall, Patree Ruggieri, Whit Whitacre, Jana Pulley, Brenda Higgins, Carol Pope, and me.

In Sung donated Korean cabbage, lettuce, and radish seeds. Dr John Bradley of FBSciences.com in Collierville donated Carbon Boost for this year. We are primarily funded this year from a large donation two years ago which should cover our normal expenses this year and next year. Laura Ruth and I donated the cost of the zinnia bed seeds and fertilizer. The new bed will be at malfunction junction (corner of Verlington, Wolf River, and Shelton) this year. 33 Savoy cabbages are still growing in the old bed in the median in Peterson Lake.

We tilled up the organic material in plots 2,3, and 5.
We hand weeded the garlic.
We hilled up plots 2 and 3 and mulched the middles with leaves.
We harvested and cleaned up ready for delivery to the Food Pantry 72 lbs of beautiful rutabagas.

To complete this work, we have the following work days:

1. Today Monday Feb 27 430pm till 530 plant taters and onions and sweetpeas and lettuce/cabbage/radish seeds. Also till in organic material in plot 1 and hill up plots 1 and 5 and mulch the middles with leaves.

2. Wednesday Feb 29 430pm till dark harvest collard greens.

3. Saturday March 3 8-noon finish making hills and mulching middles and moving compost to the raised beds.

4. Monday Mar 5 5pm fertilize the garlic.

Monday March 19 4-7 pm after St Paddy's Day:
Plant the spring garden: cabbage, lettuce, chard, kale, radishes, carrots, etc, in the back two plots.

Monday April 30 4-7pm and Saturday May 5 8am noon:
Plant the summer garden tomatoes, peas, beans, peppers, melons.

From then on we will be working most Monday evenings 5-7pm.

Aint God good.
