Last Monday Feb 27 2012 nine garden angels and I got a lot of hard work done in the Victory Garden: Ginger Hall, Patree Ruggieri, Peggy Risner, Suzanne & Aidan & Grayson & Sophia Stanford, Krista and Jason Kosewick, and me.
We hilled up and prepared several beds and planted lettuce, radish, cabbage, and sweetpea seeds, 12 cabbage sets, one row of red taters, and 100 each TX and GA sweet onions sets. Yes, we are daring Mother Nature. The latest ever killing frost in the midsouth was April 15th and occurred five years ago.
Tuesday Feb 28 I planted 16 more cabbages and 5 rows of purpletop turnip seeds.
Once again, the good folks at my favorite garden store, Halls Feed on US72 in Collierville, donated almost $30 worth of plants, seeds, and fertilizer. We are so blessed.
Thursday Mar 1 I took the 72 lbs of rutabagas we harvested last Saturday to the Collierville Food Pantry. This makes our year to date total 129 lbs,
This Saturday morning 730-930 we will plant the remaining row of red taters, harvest the collard greens, and till the OM in plot 1, Lord Willing.
Monday 5pm Dave Fitzgerald and me and anyone else who can come help will hand weed and apply organic nitrogen (blood meal) to the garlic.
