Next work day Monday April 23, 430-630pm. RSVP mymaters@yahoo.com .
We need many hands to finish picking the greens for Evie to take to the Memphis Food Pantry. We need the room to plant summer peas.
We had another wonderful week in the Victory Garden.
On Monday Whit, Joel, Debra, Lisa Mcgee and the Crosswinds Elementary School Roots & Shoots Club, and Greg and Jordan representing Cummins Diesel, and moi, harvested 84 lbs of turnip greens which I took to some needy people south of the tracks. We also put nitrogen on the corn, mulched the corn, planted Kentucky Wonder pole beans amongst the corn (2 of the 3 Sisters), and planted one row in plot 5 and all the raised beds in plot 4 in purplehull peas. We put cages around the tomatoes planted last week.
Thursday Morning (today), In Sung, Whit, Joel, and moi harvested 76 lbs of turnip greens and 10 lbs of loose leaf Korean cabbage and a few strawberries. We also watered the newly planted peas.
One of our volunteers John Pope passed away this week from a massive heart attack. His widow Annette gave us his onions, which I also picked this morning and took everything to the Collierville Food Pantry. They are not included in our total. A good man who will be sorely missed. He was 72 and a picture of health.
Interesting article on the Carbon Boost product we use which is donated by Dr John Bradley of FBSciences.com. Amazing all natural product.
