It rained a frog strangler Monday but due to our horticultural practices, the garden was ready to work Tuesday June 5, 2012. Whit, (Jimmy?), Les, Peggy, Patree, and me got a lot of work done. Note my thumb in the tater picture.
1,957 lbs YTD + 82 lbs Tuesday = 2,039 lbs for 2012. WOW OVER A TON for the year awreddy!!!
Connie weeded the zinnia cut flower bed at Malfunction Junction (corner Shelton, Wolf River, and Verlington). She and Laura will start taking bouquets to local hospice and nursing and day care centers this week. Flowers are ready to cut in the Peterson Lake bed.
We:
1. Moved the piles of weeds to the dumpster.
2. Mulched plot 5 sweet tater patch middles using the bags of grass clippings.
3. Replanted sweet tater slips in a few skips.
4. Mowed and edged.
5. Move debris pile in the back onto the compost pile right side of the stockade area.
6. Dug 82 lbs red taters which Patree will take to the Food Pantry.
7. Planted purplehull peas in inner row plot 6.
8. Mulched inner row plot 3.
Thursday morning 630-8am we will harvest rest of the taters, rest of the sweetcorn, and any ripe squarsh and cukes.
We now have planted 4 of the 6 plots in summer crops - two left. We need to clean out all of plots 1 and 3 (left/south side front and back plots). If anyone wants to work in the 7-9am time frame Satiddy, let me know and I will meet you there. There should be plenty of work to do next Monday 430-600pm finishing up.
