Victory Garden Status June 28, 2012

Another Great Week in the Victory Garden.

Picture on the right is today's harvest plus Monday's harvest taken to the Food Pantry this morning - except green beans were alreddy there. Picture above is eleven pounds of maters off one BHN602 vine with many more green'uns left. Note I knocked off two green'uns in my fervor.

Please keep Les and Peggy Risner, fellow Victory Garden volunteers, in your prayers. They were in a bad car wreck Monday evening. He has been treated and released with lots of stitches and bruises and abrasions. She is in The Med undergoing evaluation. She has broken sternum and something broken in her lower back. They are both very sore. They were hit by a driver who ran a red light.

On Monday Patree, Linda Mayo, In Sung, Les Risner, Bob Hathaway, and I finished all the mulching, tied up the sunflowers nicely, and picked 25 lbs squarsh, cukes, and maters, which Patree delivered to Food Pantry delivery this morning.

I water about every three days, and Whit does the mowing and weeding.

Monday Rick Pudwell cut some zinnias and sunflowers from our gardens for a big MBG banquet. He gave us a lot of praise and said he had many favorable comments on the flowers at the banquet. We have reached the pinochle of gardening success.

Laura is cutting and taking flowers to each room at Baptist Trinity Health Care.

This morning I used the grubbing hoe and cleaned up every weed I could find, replanted plot 1 with crowder peas since very few sweet taters sets survived in that plot, and picked 76 lbs purplehull peas, eggplant (one), jalapeno peppers, squarsh, cucumbumbers, and maters, and took them to the Food Pantry. I prayed for the Lord to send me help, and He did as I was able to complete everything needed this morning.

2,229 lbs YTD + 25 Monday + 76 Thursday = 2,330 lbs YTD.
In the immortal words of Randy "Macho Man" Savage: "Oh yeah!"

Only work needed now is keep random weeds pulled, keep the garden water and mowed, and harvest whatever is ready. Hopefully we will have lots of peas to pick purty soon.

Aint God Good!!!
