Victory Garden status Aug 28, 2012

What another wonderful week!

We are ready for fall planting in earnest, trying to work around Hurricane Isaac, but thank you Lord for the rain.

Patree picked 19 lbs of maters and lopes Thursday Aug 23 and took to duplex 200 South Street.

Laura and Connie and I have been tidying up the zinnia beds. They took pretty bouquets to Baptist Trinity Hospice and to Page Robbins.

Bob and I cleaned the pea vines out of plot 3 Monday Aug 27, sprayed the ant hill, sprayed the weeds, and harvested 22 lbs (see picture above) and took to the ladies in Harris Cv. THANKS to the angel who removed the last stack of pea vines. We would have removed todays stack but the dumpster was almost full.

3,220 lbs YTD + 19 + 22 = 3,261 lbs YTD!!!!!!!! Yea!!!!!!!!!!

Our funds balance is $589.39. Few dollars spent on supplies but receipts not yet turned in.

We received gracious donations this week:
1. Microbial infused fertilizer from Tom Mashour.
2. Green onions from Tom Mashour.
3. 2 flats each Savoy and Bonnie cabbage sets (108 plants) from Les Brannum of Bonnie Farms.
4. Very generous garlic bulb donation from Dave Fitzgerald.

Martha Montesi of the Master gardener Association is gathering PAR garden needs to include in a grant request. Any ideas? Send to her or me or both. I would like for the whole garden to be raised wooden beds.

Working around the rain we need ASAP:
1. Redo the hills in plot 3 (front left).
2. Plant cabbages and onions in plot 3.
3. Hoe out and mulch plot 2.
4. Get bags of grass clippings and mulch plots 2 and 3.
5. Take the pea vines to the dumpster.

Aint God good!
