What another wonderful week!
We began fall planting in earnest today, trying to beat Hurricane Isaac but in time to get the welcome rain. Thank You Lord for the rain and the cool morning to get so much work done.
Jeff & Jimmy did a great job cleaning up the pea vines and mowing and trimming on Tuesday. Today we cut down and removed the humongous shrubs on the south fence.
Carol, Sherry and Sid, Barbara, Jan, and I planted carrots and walking onions, weeded the greens plots, and watered all that, then cleaned and hilled up the raised beds in plot 3 and planted 111 Savoy and Bonnie cabbage sets. I reported last week 108 sets were donated by Bonnie Farms, but I did not have a slide rule or calculator with me so actual count is 216: 4 flats of 54, 2 each variety. We picked and took to the Food Pantry 17 lbs of peas, maters, eggplants, peppers, and lopes.
We had another very welcome $100 donation this week. Our funds balance is $689.39.
We have half the garden planted for the fall. We will clean out the cantaloupe plot (6) in about a week and plant more turnip greens, then mid to late September will dig the sweet taters from plots 1 and 5 and plant more greens.
Aint God good!!!
