| fun in the turnip patch |
Another wonderful week in the Victory Garden!!!
Wednesday Patree Ruggieri, Leah Mire, Chris Norris, Evie Talada, and I picked a sack of jalapeno peppers, eleven bushels of mustard greens, and 2 bushels of turnip greens. Evie took the peppers and mustard greens to the Memphis Food Bank (102 lbs) and Patree took the turnip greens to the Collierville Food Pantry (20 lbs). Leah hoed the weeds out of plot 3 where the cabbages are.
Note the before and after mustard green pix showing how we pinch off the leaves. One row has been picked three weeks running now and has completely grown back each week. We pull up turnips to thin them and remove the roots.
3,336 + 122 = 3,458 year to date lbs!!!!! YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!
Lord willing, I will finish cleaning out plot 6 and plant it in turnip greens today.
We need to mow plots 1 and 5 and dig the sweet taters ASAP, as well as grabbing bags of grass clipping from around town to mulch the middles of plots 3 and 6.
Dave Fitzgerald will lead the garlic planting in plot 5 soon. He has the seed garlic.
Jimmy is leading a tour Saturday afternoon for a group from Tupelo MS.
The town will be cleaning out and remaking the zinnia beds after this week. I will be planting kale for the winter in them.
Next work day is 7-10am Monday morning to finish what I don't get done today, and we will pick greens again 430-6pm next Wednesday.
Aint God good!!!
