Victory Garden status Thursday Oct 4, 2012

WOW! An awesome week in the Victory Garden. Cool weather and several volunteer angels made the work easy and fun. See pix below.

Last Thursday September 27 Leah Mire picked total of 7 lbs of greens which I took to an elderly lady at 200 South Street.

This morning Thursday October 4, Patree, Twila, In Sun, and I picked 146 lbs of mustard greens, maters, eggplants, and a few more sweet taters, which Patree took to the Collierville Food Pantry.

We only picked half the mustard greens, since that was all the Food Pantry can give out at one time. Note this is the fourth weekly picking of those same mustard greens. This time In Sung used his hand scythe and made quick work of the leaf cutting.

Volunteers can go get the other two rows of mustard greens any time and I will pick them up and deliver them.

3,769 + 7 + 146  = 3,922 year to date lbs!!!!!  YAY!!!!!!!!!!!! Almost 2 tons: 4,000 lbs!

The town tilled and mulched the zinnia beds, and I spread Osmocote and kale seeds therein. Now hoping for enough warmth and sunshine to make a crop for the Food Pantry.

Next work day is Monday Oct 8 430-600pm. Plan to finish cleaning out plot 1 (far left corner) and plant  rutabagas to harvest mid winter.

After the Master Gardener books were audited, it was determined we had a balance of $689.99. We had another nice donation of $50 and spent this fall $151.59 for supplies leaving us with a nice balance of $588.40, which should take care of most of next year. We will be buying fertilizer and landscape fabric in a few weeks to plant garlic.
