VG to do's anytime and Garlic Harvest Monday 430pm

Final Garlic Harvest ins Monday 430pm in the afternoon. Come have fun and clear your sinuses.

Several things need done that can be done at your convenience, if you have time, such as during the day. I can coordinate if needed. Let me know as you gt things done. Don't overheat. Wear gloves, and drink lotsa water!

1. Water the 30 pole bean containers next to the trellises on even days of the month.

2. Harvest the onions from plot 1. They are in the far left plot between some corn sprouts. Don't worry about the onions unless you can get to them today for me to deliver to Food Pantry in the morning. Just leave them drying on the wooden bins out front.

3. Weed with a hoe around the corn in plot 1.

4. Remove the weeds from around and under 14 tomato cages.

5. Edge around the zinnia bed on Peterson Lake Rd with a sharp hoe.

6. Everyone including your friends neighbors: we need about 40 bags of grass clippings.

Whit and Jan have been moving the soil into the empty spaces of the wooden beds and will continue as more garlic is harvested.

Final Garlic Harvest ins Monday 430pm in the afternoon. Come have fun and clear your sinuses.

Whit and I will use the tiller to attack the weed jungles in plot 2 then we can plant more purplehull peas there aand where the aspergrass used to live.

The purplehull peas in plot 5 are sprouting.

BIG THANKS!

Wow! Satiddy was the perfect day to work in a garden. Warm, with a cool breeze, and soil which works so easily.

Sue, Jerry, Karen, Jenna, Val, Leah, Latanya, Michelle, and me:
1. Reclaimed the aspergrass row.
2. Replanted (third time) purplehull peas in lot 5.
3. Harvested 2 lbs of strawberries and sweet peas.
4. Did some much needed weeding.
6. Mowed the area.
7. Noted in all that clover they is no honeybees, so sent an urgent request to the Mayor's Action Center asking for town codes relief. Einstein once said when the bees die, humans will too within four years, and he has not been proven wrong ever (must have been an aggravation for his wife.)
8. Tilled the new trailer park community garden on Rowlett Street.
9. Delivered the strawberries and sweetpeas to the Latino children in the trailer park.
10. Dave and friends harvest five more garlic varieties leaving mostly elephant garlic. 175 lbs to date, and will report as we distribute.
11. Admired the beauty of the experimental plot 6 which Selby and Jan are doing.

Next work date is Tuesday 4-530pm. Weeding, watering, roping and riding (just kidding), and move pile of dirt into empty raised beds and sow purplehull peas there.

Wow! What a rain the last two days. Reminds me of Louis XIV saying: "Après moi, le déluge"  Well, we had a 4"+ deluge here in Dragonville. But the raised beds are doing their thang. I think only some of our taters are in danger.

This past Monday Sue and her daughter, Bob and I:
1. Watered the bean pots.
2. Did some weeding.
3. Harvested 74 lbs Texas sweet onions and 20 lbs of the scrawny garlic in one of the raised wooden beds. I took it to the Food Pantry dis mornin. The garlic is a gorgeous rose color. See pix below.
4. Dealt with a snake which turned out to be dead, much to everyone' relief. Various local experts believe it to be a California king snake, which is native to the desert southwest. Not sure how it got here or how it met its untimely demise.

The zinnias have come up in the Peterson Lake bed but only a few in the Shelton bed. Patience, Carl Wayne, patience.

Harvest report:
    2013 to date:

      04/11/2013 41 lbs

Next work date is Satiddy May 25 8-10am in the morning. Yes I know it is Memorial Day weekend. Let's all remember those who sacrificed so much that we can have the freedoms we have. The price of liberty is blood.

Victory Garden status 5/11/2013

We're making progress, slowly but surely. This morning Adam, Latanya, and LOM (little old me) got some badly needed work done. Selby was there too working in plot 6. Ya gotta see they tater towers and the maters-in-bales work in progress.

Harvested the garlic scapes and strawberries, put down cardboard between the raised wooden beds in plot 4, and put Patree's donated wooden trellises in place.
Next things to do:

1. Harvest onions from plot 3 (left front) and let dry, harvest the lettuce, and take it all to Food Pantry on Thursday.

2. Replant the purplehull peas in plot 5.

3. Replant the corn in plot 1.

4. Get a passel of pots (I have them) and fill from the PromMix pile and plant pole beans and decorative gourds in them beside the 4 wire panels and 5 wooden panels.

5. Secure the panels to they stakes using plastic ties.

6. Plant 2 more BHN602 mater plants.

7. Till the zinnia beds.

8. Till the North Rowlett trailer park community garden.

Dave Fitzgerald will schedule a garlic party in the next week or so.

Ain't God good!

Victory Garden status 5/1/2013 next work day Saturday 9-11am (depending on da weather)

We''re making progress,slowly but surely.

Tuesday April 29, Bob, Val, Sue, and me:

Planted more cukes, squarsh, and maters. Big thanks to Les Branum of Bonnie Farms for donating many plants and the organic liquid fertilizer.

Moved the four new trellises in place. Waiting on Jeff to bring a pole knocker to install them. These are 4 x 16' cattle panels from Hall's Feed Store which they graciously delivered for free!!!! Please do not refer to them as fences as they are sections of fence or the town codes folks will be on us like flies on well-you-know-what.

Applied recommended product to 3 faraint hills after reading and following all directions carefully.

Today I harvested 22 lbs of kale (from the zinnia bed) and 42 lbs of a few garlic scapes, a few onions, one elephant garlic, and a big container of carrots. I will take them to the Food Pantry Thursday morning.

2013 to date 0 lbs
04/11/2013 41 lbs
05/01/2013 64 lbs
2013 new total 105 lbs

Finance report:
This exp report includes 3 months supplies including zinnias supplies and 4 cattle panel trellises and some PFH supplies.

813.59  balance, 550 that I reported last time as donation from MAMG. My bad. This was a bookkeeping something or another and not a donation. Beyond my ken as Mimi keeps our check book.

+225.00 donation by Patree Ruggieri (Yea!!!!!!!)
-330.79 expense reimbursement as of 4/30/13

So, our new balance as of 5/1/2013:
707.80

Current plan is to work in the garden, weather permitting 9-11am on Satiddy and hopefully also till the zinnia cut flower beds.

Ain't God good!
