Many hands make little work. Five of us enjoyed a bountiful harvest this morning and over the last few days. It was good exercize and a good sweat.
We will pick again Thursday morning Aug 15 7am.
Last Friday Sharelle and her children picked 35 lbs of purplehull peas.
Selby and Jan picked from the experimental plot 63 lbs of round lemon cukes, 5 lbs of long red beans, and 6 lbs green beans.
This morning Selby, Arlene, Val, and Patree, and I picked 78 lbs of pole beans, purplehull peas, maters, and cucumbumbers. Patree took the peas and beans to Page Robbins. I took the cukes to the Food Pantry front porch, and have the cukes and maters in my garage for Thursday morning delivery to the Food Pantry.
Peas and beans need picked every 3 or 4 days, and garden external area needs mowing!!!
Cut flower report:
Connie took a zinnia bouquet to the library, to Page Robbins, and to the West Clinic chemo lab where she is receiving treatment. Laura takes to each room at Baptist Trinity Hospice each week.
Harvest total 2013 to date:
1,093 lbs YTD + 187 lbs = 1,280 lbs new YTD.
I am meeting with one of the Master Gardener college scholarship recipients 0830 Tuesday morning. He, and another, must do some number of volunteer hours as part of the deal. We need plot 5 cleared out for fall planting and the compost pile turned.
1,093 lbs YTD + 187 lbs = 1,280 lbs new YTD.
Finance report:
Balance as of 8/08/2013: 783.70.
I bleeve next year we should plant half as many pea vines in the same space.
Ain't God good.
