This has been a fabulous week in the garden.
On Monday Oct 21, 2013 we were blessed with a visit by 120 children and a host of parents and teachers from the Collierville Elementary School. The previous blog describes that.
On Tuesday we were blessed with a visit by 14 children and parents and the teacher Lisa McGee from the Crosswind Elementary School Roots & Shoots Club. They did some work as well as picked 11 pounds of pole beans.
Wednesday morning and Thursday morning Leah, Patree, and I picked 25 bushels of turnips and greens for the Memphis Food Bank truck to come pick up. This took two days and a missed pickup etc - the net effect is they picked up 3/4ths, and I took the remaining 1/4th to Ms Julia Ferguson on Harris Cv to distribute to the elderly ladies there. Weight guesstimate: 500 lbs. I weighed 2 of the 24 containers and they averaged 24 lbs each so 24 x 24 = 576 lbs so round down to 500.
We also picked 58 lbs of peppers, maters, aigplants, and turnips and turnip greens and took to the Collierville Food Pantry. They did some much needed cleanup, and Leah painted numbers on the timbers for each plot. Yay!!!
We will work 8-9am Satiddy morning to plant spinich seeds where we have picked greens. RSVP to me!
BTW we have tons of turnips and greens, Lord willing, for the big pre-Thanksgiving give aways. If you know of needy situation now, we have excess greens.
Harvest total 2013 to date:
2,205 To date + 58 + 500 lbs = 2,763 lbs new YTD!
Finance report:
Balance as of 09/12/2013 $662.26.
We have
BTW my diagnostic scans on my legs showed no problems other than an adverse reaction to gravity caused by an impedance mismatch between my nutritional input and output.
