CVG Work Progress Update

YTD Harvest Donation = 386 lbs

On Friday, Jan and Stephanie transferred the soil from the spent sweet pea pots into garden holes (from harvested potatoes), carefully sprayed the weeds in the central walkway and added a few more wheelbarrows full of mulch. Added mulch around the work bins.

On Saturday, Carl harvested the remaining elephant garlic and weeded and mulched in the garden. Leah, Anthony, and Stephanie worked some worm castings into the archway pots between plots 1 and 2 and sowed 3-4 ornamental gourd seeds in each pot. They also weeded one of the raised beds in plot 1. Anthony added nitrogen to the comfrey bed and Stephanie added nitrogen to the south large cinder block bed. Stephanie watered the archway pots, the cinder block raised beds, the baled tomatoes, and all of the fresh nitrogen, and continued to work on weeding the previously garlic area. They tried to dispose of the weed bags in the church dumpster but it was full.... so most of the weed bags were placed on top of the garlic area weeds in hopes they would start to smother them (ha!).

Next work opportunities and plans:

Monday 8 am - 11 am

--Work in a  2-3" layer of available compost to the previously onion and mustard raised beds to ready them for planting crowder peas and big zipper cream peas.
--Dispose of weed bags, if possible
--Continue weeding garlic area; hill up a row next to okra and plant a double row of corn; create hills about 6 feet apart in-between corn row and sweet potatoes for Girl Scouts to plant honeydew and more cantaloupe and more Beauregard sweet potatoes, if possible

Tuesday 8 am - 11 am

    --Continue Monday's work plan

Thursday 7:30-8:30 am

CVG Big Harvest Report 12 June 14

Today's harvest donation = 157 lbs

On Tuesday Twila and Joan reinforced the baled tomatoes with twine. Judy's husband took care of the downed tree limb and placed the pieces near the bushes-- THANK YOU!! Judy and the Girl Scouts weeded the Zinnia beds. We'll have blooms this week! Jan led the Girl Scouts in planting some new Zinnias.

This morning Carl, Patree, Arlene, Amy, and Stephanie harvested red and white candy sweet onions, red potatoes, hot peppers, radishes and the first two bell peppers. Patree and Amy cleared out a lot of the weeds in plot one.... 5 more yard bags worth! Carl weeded and mulched around the tomatoes in plot 3. Stephanie added nitrogen to the corn in the cinder block beds and sprayed witch hazel mix on the corn silks and also the melon plants in plot 3.

What a treat to see the work bins painted by the Collierville Christian Church youth this morning! They look so awesome!
Next work opportunity: Saturday 8:30 am - 11 am. Stephanie will be there attacking more weeds to make way for more plantings (crowder peas, big zipper cream peas, more melons, radishes,....). And adding worm castings to the archway pots between plots 1 and 2 and sowing more gourd seeds there. Please join her if you are able.
