This week's work progress:
This week Lauryce and Stephanie weeded all of plot 1 except one walkway and reseeded the plot 1 raised beds with crowder peas. Carl mowed and weed-eated around the garden and harvested. After the storm Monday night, Stephanie and Twila on Tuesday used bamboo stakes to secure the new corn in plot 6. The high winds during the storm also blew large portions of a tree onto and around the compost area fence that will require significant chainsaw work and muscle to clean up next week.... On Tuesday night, assisted by Amy, Latanya, Twila, and Stephanie, Girl Scout volunteers harvested nearly a dozen quart-sized mason jars full of zinnias and more than 5 lbs of purple hull peas. The zinnias were delivered to Dove Rehabilitation Center.
Downed tree branches around the compost area:
Happy garden pollinators:
The Collierville Victory Garden and Butterfly Haven is committed to the Memphis Area Master Gardeners' mission to pass on the joy of gardening and UT Extension horticultural knowledge. Through the generosity of the Collierville Christian Church and MAMG, this Plant-A-Row for the Hungry (PAR) garden donates its vegetables to the Collierville Food Pantry, Resurrection Catholic School and Fayette County Project Outreach and its flowers to Page Robbins and Habitat for Humanity.
