On Thursday December 3, Teresa, Twila, Jan, Stephanie hosted a visit to the garden by Shelby County extension reps and USDA Deputy Under Secretary Dr. Ann Bartuska. Harvested 7 lb mustard greens, cabbage, turnips for the Collierville Food Pantry. Patree delivered. Harvested 36 lb cabbage; 19 lb kale, turnip, collard; 2 lb mustard; 3 lb swiss chard, beet— 60 lb total for the Resurrection Catholic School. Patree delivered. Built a temporary structure to store shredded leaf mulch. Mulched plots 7 and 8 with pine needles. Changed out wheels on large cart.
On Thursday December 3, Jan, Twila, Teresa, Lauryce, Arlene, and Stephanie hosted 9 Middle School Junior Beta Club students to prep raised beds- add compost, add bone meal, hand turn— then plant garlic. They also weeded other beds, moved archway box soil into concrete block beds, and filled concrete block “holes” with soil. Boy Scouts gathered and moved church property leaves next to garden for composting.
