Work Progress:

In the previous week progress update I neglected to mention the 14 lbs of toiletries and kids' coats that Jamila and her Girl Scout troop donated. Thank you!!

On Monday Jan 17, Carl, Twila, Val, Lynda, and Stephanie moved all available compost/soil to the northern most zinnia bed and plot 5 cinderblock holes. They covered everything possible with black plastic. They weeded in plot 1 and the plot 2 large cinderblock bed. Twila added sulphur to plots 1,2,4,6 including cinderblock holes. Added coffee grounds to the barrel composters. Dusted fire ant bait on two large ant piles located at fenceline of plot 1 and the edge of the leaf pile nearest the compost fence. Fed blue birds some peanut suet pellets.

On Tuesday Jan 18, Lisa and her Girl Scout troop delivered an awesome new handmade scarecrow for the garden. Thank You!!

On Thursday Jan 22, Twila, Lynda, Arlene, and Stephanie covered the beet plots for frost, harvested 5 lbs of mustard greens, rutabaga, radish, and green onion. Stephanie delivered to the Collierville Food Pantry. They cleaned out the large cinderblock bed in plot 5 and most of plot 1. They turned over the soil to expose any stink bug/harlequin bug eggs to the fost and to read the plot for dormant oil spraying when the weather warms up a bit. They fed the blue birds some peanut suet pellets. Carl picked up some Starbucks coffee grounds. Many, many yards of free leaf compost was delivered to CVG. Big, big thanks to Carl for organizing, Jim for delivering part of it and the Public Services Department of Collierville for delivering 2 huge dump truck loads!
