Dec 15 - end of year 2014 CVG Progress and Upcoming Opportunities

The last of 2014 49 lbs of harvest donations:
to the Collierville Food Pantry = 49 lbs
Total YTD harvest donation = 3,286 lbs

***Please update your annual liability release form and give it to me/leave it in the mailbox the next time you work at the garden***:


Tuesday Jan 6:  8:30 am - 10:30 am
-- Garden clean-up, weeding, any last minute preparations/mulching for big freeze
Wednesday Jan 7:  3:00 pm - 5:00 pm -- Harvest for Collierville Food Pantry, weeding, frostcover any remaining greens

* Looking for any hotel sized toiletries, toothbrushes, kid's jackets and socks, new kid's underwear (all kid sizes, gender). We'll send on anything we receive with our produce donation to the Salvation Army on an ongoing basis.... So clear your shelves/drawers/closets!

Wish List for the Garden/Opportunities easily done on your own time:

*  Yard bags of pine needles for the cinderblock walkways and mulching garlic
*  Pick up Starbucks (on Poplar) coffee grounds a couple of times per week (mid morning after breakfast rush or early afternoon after lunch rush) for composting
*  Old bird feeders
*  Meal worms for bluebirds

Garden Maintenance To Do List:

* Figure out how to shred the huge pile of oak leaves to speed up the composting process....
* Weed in cinderblock beds and wooden raised beds, plot 3 and plot 6

Work Progress:


On Thursday Dec 18, Carl, Arlene, and Stephanie harvested 49 lbs of cabbage (chinese, Bonnie, and savoy). Carl and Stephanie delivered to the Food Pantry. Sophia delivered coffee grounds from Donut Hutt.
On Tuesday Dec 30, Twila and Stephanie covered the mustard in plots 1, 4, and 6 before the freeze.

On Thursday Jan 1, Stephanie and her mother Sandra uncovered the mustard, added the donated coffee grounds to the compost barrels, and added pine needles to the plot 6 garlic.

On Sunday Jan 4, Stephanie covered the mustard in plots 1, 4, 6.
