CVG 2015 March 28 - April 5 Progress and Upcoming Opportunities

Upcoming Week's CVG Organized Work Opportunities:
Tuesday April 7: 3 pm - dusk -- if dry enough:level, till, lay landscape fabric, start building raised beds and filling them with compost in plot 3, lay landscape fabric in "back" archway walkway and set and fill archway planters, start adjusting draining of central walkway to back gate, replace black plastic walkway 'liner' in plot 6 and finish laying weed barrier in plot 6, weed plot 4, search and destroy harlequin bugs and eggs, start covering any potatoes that are growing out of the new raised bed compost with available straw, weed around garden fence and outer raised beds, inventory and organize work bins/benches, start dealing with oak leaf piles.
Wednesday April 8: 9 pm - noon -- continue Tuesday's work plan,..

Work Progress:

On Sunday March 29
, Twila, Jan, John, CJ, Adam, Val, Teresa, Kevin and Cameron (2 CHS volunteers). They removed window a-frames/coldframes and frost covers, dismantled the remaining central bed in plot 1, shortened the ends of the plot 1 bed closest to the central walkway and moved it over to maximize planting space, constructed rest of plot 6 beds, added 6-12-12 fertilizer to the newly constructed beds, planted 4 of the new beds with white potatoes. Liquid fertilized plot 5 cabbages, dug out the remaining asparagus from plot 3.
On Monday March 30, Val, Twila, Jan, and Stephanie met to discuss May's MAMG share and learn presentation.

On Tuesday March 31, Twila, Jan, Teresa, and Stephanie. They worked on plot 7 to ready it for a new butterfly and bee garden, recycled a few rusty cages, set up a new bird feeding station, planted blue potatoes in the last empty new bed in plot 6 (nearest archway and central walkway), added linseed oil to the last two new archway boxes, leveled archway walkways and moved excess soil to plot 3, created a berm next to new drain in plot 6, pulled and disposed of red cabbage out of plot 2 because covered in harlequin bugs, saturated area with dormant oil, tilled and leveled plot 1, laid landscape fabric in front archway walkway, set archway planters and filled them with compost.

On Thursday April 2, Stephanie harvested 4 lb of beets and carrots and delivered to the Collierville Food Pantry.

On Saturday April 4, Jan delivered some soil to the garden and placed in plot 3.
