Upcoming CVG Organized Work Opportunities:
Monday June 15: 8:30 am - 10:30 am -- Continue fence/border renovations, finish demo-ing rotten central beds in plot 4, fill plot center raised bed with compost/soil, exchange some of the compost in empty plot 6 beds with soil from plot 4. Plant more tomatoes in plot 4.
Tuesday June 16 : 5:30 pm - dusk -- Host Girl Scout troop for garden tasks such as....Divide zinnias seedlings and pull weeds in Girl Scout beds, Continue weeding, especially walkways and "volunteer" grass in beds. Work on more permanent id's for vegetables. Maybe clean some of the dried garlic. Spray beans with neem oil mix again. Look for squash bugs/eggs on zucchini. Plant more okra. Plant more cowpeas. Plant more sweet potatoes. Make sure cukes and pole beans are vining up the trellises. Continue fence renovations.
Thursday June 18: 8:00 am - 10:30 am -- Harvest for the Food Pantry. Continue garden tasks.
Upcoming Teaching Opportunity:
Tuesday June 16 : 5:30 pm - 7 pm -- Host Girl Scout Troop arriving at 6 pm to tend zinnia beds and other garden tasks. Please let me know if you are available to assist.

June 9 and 11, 2015 165 lbs of onions, leeks, garlic, carrots, eggplant, zucchini, cucumber, red potatoes, pepper harvest donations:
to The Salvation Army on June 9, 2015 = 52 lbs
to the Collierville Food Pantry on June 11, 2015 = 45 lbs
harvested garlic currently drying/curing to be donated over the next couple of months = 68 lbs
Total YTD harvest donation = 1044 lbs

Work Progress:
On Monday June 8, Jan, Amy, Stephanie. Reattached front gate. Worked on drainage around front water spigot drain/front gate. Set up baseball hose station. Started laying shingles and moving timbers back to the fence line. Modified new north gate a bit. Attached new top to one of the bins.
On Tuesday June 9 (AM), Arlene, Jan, Lauryce, Amy, Dianne, Judy, Stephanie. Hosted 11 middle school Central Day Campers. Using "Garden Bingo" game, harvested onions for food pantry and the Salvation Army, harvested garlic, divided and planted liriope grass on shady slope of church grounds, mixed potting soil in pots and "planted" strawberry runners, cleaned some of the dried garlic, taste tested fresh strawberries and "herb" water, misc. other garden talk/tasks.
On Tuesday June 9 (PM), Arlene, Jane, Stephanie. Hosted Girl Scout troop in harvesting some red potatoes for the Food Pantry and planting melon seeds. Later sprayed cukes and zukes with neem oil.
On Thursday June 11, Patree, Jan, Stephanie, Stacy. Harvested last of the onion, some carrot, eggplant, zuke. Patree delivered with previously harvested red potatoes to the Collierville Food Pantry. Tilled available beds. Planted bicolor corn in next available bed in plot 1, planted butterfruit corn in plot 2 large raised bed, planted available peppers in plot 2, planted strawberries in plot 2 cinderblock holes. Fertilized tomatoes. Sidedressed corn. Fertilized potato beds. Attached new top to one of the work bins.

The Collierville Victory Garden and Butterfly Haven is committed to the Memphis Area Master Gardeners' mission to pass on the joy of gardening and UT Extension horticultural knowledge. Through the generosity of the Collierville Christian Church and MAMG, this Plant-A-Row for the Hungry (PAR) garden donates its vegetables to the Collierville Food Pantry, Resurrection Catholic School and Fayette County Project Outreach and its flowers to Page Robbins and Habitat for Humanity.
