August 4 Harvest:
On August July 3, Twila, Jan, Teresa harvested 14 lbs of tomatoes, eggplant, cucumber, basil, mint. Patree delivered to Hickory Hill Jubilee School. Harvested okra and held for future donation. Thank you Sophia for delivering more coffee grounds from Donut Hutt! MAMG historian Scarlet Crews toured the garden and took photos. Twila strung two more rows of twine for the plot 4 Arkansas Traveler tomatoes. Jan's husband Rick (Thank you!) donated enough shingles to finish the south side of the garden fence. Teresa hand watered and filled all the water containers. Irrigation adjusted for 95+ degree weather. Jan cleaned hummingbird feeder and refilled. Placed powdered sevin on plot 8 pumpkins. Baseball team donated $20 to the garden (Thank you!) and gave permission to use some of the clay soil pile.
On August 5, Jan and Twila raked leaves that are between compost/storage and baseball field, weeded and cleaned out plots 7 and 8, moved Brazelberries, Raspberry shortcakes to plot 7, moved white natchez crape myrtles from plot 7 to 8. Tested all irrigation, adjusted kinks and sprinkler heads. Cleaned up all trash/debris. Placed chairs on storage benches for mowers.
On August 6, Teresa, Twila, Stephanie harvested 23 lbs of corn and 23 lbs of purple hulls and tomatoes before the sky opened up. Stephanie delivered 59 lbs total to the Collierville Food Pantry. After the rainclouds cleared, Stephanie and Patree harvested another 17 lbs of tomato, cowpea, okra, pepper. Patree delivered to South St. neighbors. Stephanie pulled most of the plot 2 corn stalks and moved them to the compost area the killed some squash bugs/eggs on the pumpkin. Pulled dead cuke vine in plot 1 and disposed. Rain gauge read about 3.6 inches .....Delayed irrigation.
On August 7, Rain gauge read another 0.7 inches. Stephanie delayed irrigation.
On August 8, Stephanie delayed irrigation.
On August 9, Stephanie harvested about a pound of okra and saved for future donation.
