CVG Harvest and Progress September 7 - September 12, 2015

to Ms. Julia and Ms. Edna on Harris Cove on September 8, 2015 = 16 lbs
to Ms. Bertha near Harris Cove on September 10, 2015 = 10 lbs
zinnia arrangements to Collierville Christian Church and Beta student volunteers on September 12, 2015
sweet potatoes held to cure and green tomatoes held for ripening for next week's donation = 34 lbs

Work Progress:

On Tuesday September 8,  Leah M., Twila, Teresa, Jan, Stephanie. Harvested 16 lb of green beans, okra, tomato, cowpea, pepper. Harvested 9 lb of sweet potatoes, held for next week. Stephanie delivered the 16 lbs to Ms Edna and Ms Julia of Harris Cove. Talked with a Harris Cove neighbor Ms Bertha about a future produce delivery. Put landscape fabric and eggshells around the newly planted savoy cabbages. Worked on leveling walkways. Deadheaded part of the zinnia beds. Planted white ball hybrid turnips in plot 3. 

On Wednesday, September 9, Twila and Jan continued leveling walkways and laid plastic contractor grade landscape fabric down the entire central walkway.

On Thursday September 10, Teresa, Twila, Jan, Stephanie. Harvested 73 total pounds of okra, pepper, mustard greens, watermelon, cowpea, green beans, tomatoes (red and green), sweet potatoes. Cleaned out 2 of the tomato raised beds in plot 3. Stephanie delivered 50 lbs of the harvest to the Collierville Food Pantry and 10 lbs to Ms. Bertha of (near) Harris Cove. Rest of produce held for next week. Jan worked on leveling and prepping the new raised bed for the CVG sign. Divided 30+ Gonzales cabbage seedlings and 16+ little gem lettuce.

On Saturday September 12, Judy M., Dianne Y., Twila, Jan, and Stephanie for 3 teaching hours hosted 5 Schilling Farm Middle School Junior Beta students. They worked in the compost area and the zinnia beds as well as prepped raised beds and planted 9 red cabbage and 18 red romaine lettuces. They divided variegated liriope and planted it and day lilies and other perennials around the church property. They also harvested 12 lbs of sweet potatoes. Afterwards, the seedlings were watered and cucumber plants dusted. Refilled hummingbird feeder. Set irrigation to run every other day.
