70 lbs of tomatoes, cowpeas, green beans, okra, hot and sweet peppers, sweet potato:

to the Collierville Food Pantry on September 3, 2015  = 13 lbs + last week’s sweet potatoes and some garlic
to Resurrection School (a Jubilee school in Hickory Hill) on August 31, 2015 = 25 lbs (thank you Patree for delivering!)
to Collierville Baptist Hospital nurses station = 2 lbs and zinnia arrangements (thank you Val!)

Work Progress:

On Monday August 31,  Arlene, Leah M., Teresa, Val, Twila, Jan, Stephanie. Harvested and delivered zinnia to Page Robbins.  Bill McLain (sp?) from St. Georges school visited/toured the garden for an hour with Stephanie. Harvested 27 lbs of cowpeas, tomatoes, green beans, okra, green tomatoes, peppers. Picked up pea gravel from Lowes. Continued work on walkway drainage. Harvested and delivered zinnia to Collierville Baptist hospital.


On Tuesday Sept 1, Jan, Twila, Teresa, Stephanie. Replied to two CVG requests: Crosswind Elementary Roots and Shoots visit, CMS science teacher/head of CMS garden/environmental club. Bought three 9-packs of savoy cabbage. Worked on raised bed signs for the garden. Finished burying drain tile/french drains. Put pea gravel around drains. Used PVC pipe to bury hoses in walkways. Tilled up plot 3 empty beds. Pulled sunflower and zinnia in plot 1 then plot 3 raised bed. Planted 16 cabbages in plot 1 raised bed. Moved timbers into place in central walkway. Filled low spot in walkway in front of plot 2. Leveled out area between walkway and plot 2. Sophia brought some coffee grounds from Donut Hutt (THANK YOU!). Set irrigation to run every day inside the fence, every 12 hours in plots 7/8. 

On Wednesday Sept 2, Twila, Jan. Laid contractor’s grade fabric barrier on the south side walkway between the cinderblock beds. Tilled plot 1. Moved raised bed box and replanted strawberries in back archway between plots 1 and 2. Noticed one railbird impulse sprinkler not working in plot 8, replaced. Removed black plastic from plot 1. Trash taken to dumpster. 

On Thursday Sept 3, Twila, Teresa, Stephanie. Patree delivered to the Collierville Food Pantry: 13 lbs of tomato, okra, pepper, cowpeas, green beans. Teresa harvested 30 lbs of sweet potatoes out of plot 5, held for next week’s deliveries. Stephanie hilled up three rows in plot 1 and planted 17 more savoy cabbages. Side dressed with milorganite. Dusted cucumber plants. Hand watered sweet potatoes in silver bins, cucumbers, and strawberries. 

On Friday Sept 4, hand watered pole bean arches, new greens seedlings, cucumbers.

On Saturday Sept 5, Twila. Checked garden. Manually ran irrigation in plot 8 and corrected on sprinkler head for better coverage.
