On Monday November 23,  Twila, Teresa, and Jan pulled dead/spent plants from the garden, tilled plot 4, covered plot 1 with black plastic.

This week's Harvest Donation:

183 lbs of tomatoes, turnips, cabbage, hot and sweet peppers, greens, lima beans:

On Monday November 16,  Twila, Jan, Teresa, Carole, Stephanie, and Suzanne and her 3 children harvested 6 lb swiss chard, 7 lb beets, 11 lb turnip, 6 lb bean, 4 lb kale, 35 lb cabbage, 10 lb red tomato, 12 lb green tomato, 3 lb collard, 18 lb peppers, 2 lb lettuce, 2 lb mustard. Stephanie delivered to Patree who took the harvest to the Resurrection School on Tuesday. Started clearing beds—okra plants, pepper plants. Topped plot 3 bed with compost. 


Jeff picked up 43 landscaping plants for Habitat for Humanity.

On Thursday November 19,  Jan, Twila, Carole, Teresa, Stephanie harvested 16 lb beet, 18 lb mustard, 8 lb turnip greens, 17 lb cabbage, 8 lb tomato, Patree delivered to the pantry. Worked in compost, moved bird feeder station, set up frost covers on mustard greens, pulled some tomato plants.

CVG Harvest and Progress November 9 - November 15, 2015

107 lbs of tomatoes, turnips, cabbage, okra, hot and sweet peppers, greens, green beans:

On Monday November 9,  Twila, Jan, Val, Carole, Stephanie, Teresa harvested 13 lb of peppers, 15 lb of tomato, 11 lb of turnips, okra, green beans, and 27 lb cabbage, 7 lb swiss chard, collards, mustard, 4 lb kale. Moved CVG sign to new location in new concrete block bed. Patree delivered to the Resurrection School in Hickory Hill on Tuesday morning.





On Thursday November 12, Jan, Twila, Teresa, Stephanie, Kim, Patree harvested 9 lb turnip, 1 lb Gonzales cabbage, 5 lb Savoy cabbage, 12 lb tomato, 3 lb mustard. Patree delivered to the Collierville Food Pantry. Topped empty beds in plot 3 and 6 with some clay mix soil. Shifted some donated straw bales to protect some of the tender landscaping plants from the winter wind. Installed a second bluebird house in new location at south side of the garden. Continued winter prep of landscaping plants.

CVG Harvest and Progress November 2 - November 8, 2015

186 lbs of tomatoes, turnips, cabbage, okra, hot and sweet peppers, greens, green beans, sweet potatoes:

*to the Resurrection School in Hickory Hill = 85 lbs + sweet potatoes (thank you Patree for delivering!)
*to Memphis Union Mission Moriah House = 30 lbs + sweet potatoes (thank you Val!)
*sweet potatoes held for drying/curing = 31 lbs

Work Progress:

On Monday November 2,  Twila, Jan, Stephanie, Teresa, Val, and Dianne harvested 15 lbs cabbage, 5 lb swiss chard, 5 lb pepper, 30 lb tomato, 15 lb kale and turnip, 7 lb green bean, 7 lb turnip and collard, and 1 lb mustard. Patree delivered to Resurrection School Tuesday am. Hosted 20 elementary students (plus parents) in the Roots and Shoots Garden Club to build a lasagna compost bed, talk garden composting, and dig the rest of the sweet potatoes. They harvested 25 lbs. 





On Tuesday November 3,  Stephanie sprayed neem on green beans and greens and folded up landscape plastic sheets and stored.

On Wednesday November 4, Val and Stephanie harvested 11 lbs greens and peppers and okra, 12 lbs tomatoes and beans, 7 lbs cabbage. All delivered to Memphis Union Mission Moriah House. Jan shopped for new tools and supplies.

On Thursday November 5, Teresa, Twila, Jan, Carole, Kim, and Stephanie harvested 9 lbs turnips, 7 lbs mustard, 6 lbs cabbage, 17 lb tomatoes and okra, 1 lb peppers. Patree delivered 40 lbs to the Collierville Food Pantry. They then harvested 6 lbs sweet potatoes, held for drying/curing. Garden cleaned up—moved last of the compost and 10-year cow manure into the garden. Weeded plot 2. Pulled spent zinnia. Raked up pine needles and spread them in demo beds. Pulled glad bulbs. Moved remaining concrete blocks into garden and started making new mini-beds for strawberries in plot 2. 

On Sunday November 8, Stephanie sprayed BT on cabbage and updated email/blog.

On Monday October 26,  updated email and blog. Rain delayed irrigation timers for 2 days. 1.5” of rain.

On Tuesday October 27,  Twila, Teresa, and Stephanie. Harvested…in the rain…. 58 lbs for Resurrection School in Hickory Hill—6 lb green beans, 6 lb pepper and okra, 11 lb tomato, 18 lb turnips, 17 lb greens-kale, chard, collard. Patree delivered harvest + sweet potatoes. Rained another 0.5”.

On Thursday October 29, Jan, Twila, Teresa, Stephanie, Carol, Michelle.  Harvested 48 lbs— 13 lb tomato, okra, pepper, 13 lb turnip, 15 lb mustard, 7 lb green beans. Patree delivered harvest + sweet potatoes. Pulled all remaining sweet potato vines in plot 6then stripped the vines of leaves for composting. Continued Fall cleanup— cleared out 2 of the zinnia beds, started removing oldest burgundy okra. Jan and Twila completed construction of new concrete block bed for the sign. Sprayed all cabbage/greens/green beans with BT and/or neem oil. Closed off water valves to all irrigation timers. Continued work on 2016 budget request. Ordered heavy duty landscape fabric for walkways. Teresa brought liriope for plot 8.
