Work Progress:

On Monday April 18 - Janet, Twila, Teresa, Stephanie, Val, Jan
Harvested 39 lbs of mustard, collard, turnip, lettuce, spinach, onions, and radishes for Fayette Cares. Shona picked up and delivered. Irrigation system was put back into service.


On Tuesday April 19 - Stephanie sprayed BT on cabbages and neem on mustard and turnips. Met Lee and toured the garden, talking pony manure, tomatoes, and the master gardener program.

On Thursday April 21 - Twila, Leah, and Stephanie harvested 20 lbs of turnips, mustard, and strawberry for the Food Pantry. Stephanie delivered.

On Friday April 22 - Jan and Twila prepped the two flower outer beds, transferring volunteers to one bed and seeded with zinnia and strawflower in the other. Girl Scout Troop 13111 delivered a new scarecrow to the garden. Stephanie sprayed BT on the cabbage and neem on the turnips and mustard.

On Saturday April 23 - Teresa and Riley hilled up potatoes and finished installing tomato stakes and twine in plot 1 future Arkansas traveller tomato bed. Stephanie bought and planted “easy pick gold” zucchini plants in plot 5 then ran all 3 irrigation zones in the vegetable area for 5 minutes each. Started adding compost to center of Arkansas traveller bed.

On Sunday April 24 - Stephanie checked on the new zuke seedlings then ran all 3 vegetable irrigation zones for 8 minutes each.

Work Progress:
 
On Tuesday April 12 - Jan, Arlene, Teresa, Twila, Janet, Mary, Stephanie prepped for intern visit. Then Jan and Twila visited Crosswind Elementary “Roots and Shoots” garden club to talk composting.
On Wednesday April 13 - Leah, Jan, Teresa, Val, Dianne, Janet, Judy, Arlene, Susan P., Stephanie and Twila hosted the 2016 MAMG interns during a visit to CVG. Stations included dividing and planting perennials, side-dressing garlic and cabbage and planting vegetable transplants, bad garden bugs and seeding using toilet paper, and composting. 

On Thursday April 14 - Twila, Teresa, Stephanie harvested 21 lbs of mustard greens, red mustard greens, red romaine lettuce, turnips and mini bok choy. Stephanie delivered to the Collierville Food Pantry.

Work Progress:
 
On Monday April 4 - Jan, Twila, Teresa, Val, Dianne, Janet, Stephanie - Worked in plots 7 and 8, pulled rotten potatoes out of plot 3, started filling empty beds with soil, talked intern visit plan.

On Thursday April 6 - Jan, Teresa, Arlene, Leah, Stephanie - harvested 16 lb mustard, 6 lb red mustard and collard greens. Patree delivered. Moved lots of promix and compost into garden containers for intern visit, emptied water out of buckets, added dirt back into plot 3 beds, disposed of hay bales and scarecrow, installed pvc prototype trellis for cowpeas, added diatomaceous earth to some of the turnips and spinach leaves, talked specifics about plant placement and installed trellises in plot 2.

On Saturday April 8 - Stephanie started installing tall tomato trellis stakes and bean trellis in plot 1, started weeding around plot 1 tomato bed, led 30 minute tour/discussion with a community visitor.

Work Progress:


On Monday March 28Teresa and Jan placed dirt and tomato cages in plot #2.  Judy and Jane came for the teacher meeting from 5 to 6 pm.  Teresa and I brought them up to speed on the garden.  Janet stayed and help us finish up the tomato cages. 

On Tuesday March 29, Twila, Leah and Jan practiced putting the shade canopy up. Tough! We'll be faster with four and practice.  Twila watered the perennials divided on Friday. We finished planting and watering the lettuce in plot #2 and the 1' x 4' arbor beds.  Jan treated the church's crape myrtles, checked the berm - all the monkey grass (liriope) is coming back and trimmed the front arbor clematis.  Connie stopped by with an interest in cutting Zinnias on Monday evenings.  Applied Fire Ant killer to storage benches. Refilled clean Osmocote containers.  Water for irrigation is on.

On Thursday March 31, Stephanie harvested 5 lbs of red mustard greens and collard greens until it started raining then delivered the harvest to the Collierville Food Pantry and delivered chairs to the garden.

On Saturday April 2, Twila and Jan divided, repotted, fertilized, treated labeled, and watered several perennials.  Plot #7 is finished except for the north rows of pink dwarf mexican petuniasStephanie represented the garden on the WKNO show “The Family Plot- Gardening in the Mid-South” to talk about growing cabbage.
