Work Progress:
On Monday April 25 - Twila, Jan, Carol, Janet, Teresa, and Stephanie. Harvested 41 lbs— 24 lbs of turnips, beets, and radish; 5 lbs strawberry, 5 lbs mustard, 2 lb spinach, 3 lb lettuce, 2 lb collard. Shona picked up the harvest for delivery. Started side dressing the cabbage.
On Tuesday April 26 - Stephanie manually rain the 3 vegetable irrigation zones for 11 minutes each. Planted some coat and jacket cowpeas along the front two trellises in plot 1.
On Wednesday April 27 - Stephanie picked up the tomato trial grafted “vs.” ungrafted tomato plants from the Agricenter. May the best tomato producing plant group win!
On Thursday April 28 - Teresa, Twila, Leah, Stephanie harvested 32 lbs for the food pantry— 17 lb turnip, 10 lb mustard, spinach; 5 lb strawberry. Stephanie delivered. Jan, Barbara, and Nancy worked in plot 8. Twila weeded plot 1. Teresa and Leah planted 10 verona tomato plants in plot 2, 4 arkansas traveller tomato plants in plot 1, 3 cajun bell pepper plants in plot 2, 4 thyme plants in plots 2 and 4. Stephanie trench side dressed the tomatoes with composted pony manure. Leah planted some rattlesnake pole beans in the empty west archway boxes between plots 5 and 6. Stephanie finshed planting coat and jacket cowpeas along the bean trellises in plot 1. Sidedressed red acre cabbage in plot 1.
On Friday April 29 - Stephanie sprayed BT on all cole crops. Twila and Stephanie troubleshot the north irrigation timer in the perennial demo beds. Twila picked up the “Ask a Master Gardener” box from the Agricenter.
On Sunday May 1 - Twila, Teresa, Val, Jan, Dawn, and Jane Y. attended the Collierville Christian Church Thank You Picnic, including leading tours through the garden and manning the “Ask A Master Gardener” table. Teresa and son Riley trimmed back the branches along the western edge of the garden.
