Work Progress:

On Monday July 18 - Val F., Susannah, Deena, Susie, Janet K., Twila, Stephanie harvested 25 lbs of tomato, green bean, and cucumber, and 7 lbs of eggplant, zucchini, and hot peppers. Shona picked up the harvest for Fayette County Project Outreach. Went bug hunting in the okra. Twined up plot 6 cow pea/ field pea vines.Worked on compost. Harvested 14 bouquets of zinnias. Hand watered archway boxes.

On Tuesday July 19 - Stephanie fresh cut the harvested zinnia stems and delivered the 14 bouquets to Page Robbins Adult Day Center. Started making new carrot seed “tape” using toilet paper.

On Wednesday July 20 - Stephanie checked on garden and irrigation. Harvested 2.2 lbs of arkansas traveler tomato. Saw a few half eaten tomatoes…. Harvested 2 homestead ungrafted tomato (1 lb). Saw two eaten grafted celebrity tomatoes.

On Thursday July 21 - Twila, Leah, Val F., Kim, Stephanie, Amy, Evelyn. Harvested 4.4 lbs of green beans and cucumbers; 16.2 lb of tomatoes and peppers. Stephanie delivered Thursday’s harvest as well as Wednesday’s tomato to the Collierville Food Pantry. Topped most of plot 5 beds with compost. Weeded. Afterward, Stephanie went to Tractor Supply for a chipmunk trap and set it up at the garden. At monthly MAMG meeting that evening, Val T. and Stephanie sliced some tomato trial tomatoes and asked master gardeners to participate in a taste testing.

Work Progress:

 

On Monday July 11 - updated email/blog. Twila, Val, Patree, Janet, Stephanie harvested 6 lbs of chard, tomato, pepper, zucchini, cucumber, eggplant for a family in need. Patree delivered. Harvested 24 lbs for Fayette County Project Outreach. Delana delivered. Weeded. Harvested 2 lbs of ungrafted celebrity tomato (4 count), 3.5 lb grafted celebrity tomato (6 count), 1.75 lb of grafted homestead tomato (4 count), 1.75 lb of ungrafted homestead tomato (4 count). Pulled/threw out an additional 3 ungrafted celebrity tomatoes (0.75 lb) due to chipmunk damage. Hand watered archway boxes.

On Tuesday July 12 - Teresa and Riley harvested and delivered 18 bouquets of zinnia.

On Wednesday July 13 - Twila and Jan worked in plots 7 and 8, discussed addition of an irrigation head in plot 8. Stephanie worked on CVG letterhead for kids that need to officially report hours. Riley and Teresa put together the new dual composter.

On Thursday July 14 - Twila, Kim, Val F., Leah, Sarah, Stephanie. Harvested 22 lbs of tomato, cucumber, eggplant, hot peppers, zucchini. Stephanie delivered to Collierville Food Pantry. Weeded until thunderstorm shooed us away.

On Saturday July 16 - Stephanie worked on tomato trial taste test forms, put a few of the verona tall supports back upright, sadly pulled and tossed 22 celebrity tomatoes (5 lbs) due to chipmunk damage,  found hole and put the trap over hit, and pulled/disposed of 2 homestead grafted tomato (0.5 lb?) due to insect damage possibly stink bug. Harvested 2 lbs ungrafted homestead tomato (7 count), 1 lb grafted homestead (3 count), 5 lb grafted celebrity tomato (12 count), 5 lb ungrafted celebrity tomato (13 count). Harvested 5 lbs of ark traveler tomato and verona tomato, held for Monday’s donation.

Collierville Food Pantry is in particular need of canned beef/pork meat products, like spam, chili meat, beef stew. Please let me know if you would like to donate.

Work Progress:

On Tuesday July 5 - Teresa and Riley harvested 14 bouquets of zinnias, 12 were delivered to Page Robbins, 2 were delivered to the Collierville library

On Thursday July 7 - Patree, Kim, Teresa, Stephanie, Jake harvested 40 lbs of cucumber, eggplant, peppers, zucchini, “verona” tomato. Patree delivered to the Collierville Food Pantry. Jake planted a few more sweet potato slips in plot 4 bins, Kim and Teresa added more twine to the celebrity tomatoes and tried to tame the cow pea vines. Stephanie, Kim, Teresa weeded in plots 4 and 5.

Work Progress:

On Monday June 27 - Stephanie harvested 10 lbs between thunderstorms, Patree delivered to a family in need. Checked on irrigation.

On Tuesday June 28 - Teresa harvested and delivered zinnia to Page Robbins and the Collierville library. Noticed first monarch in the garden.

On Wednesday June 29 - Twila and Jan worked in perennial beds, side dressed with milorganite.

On Thursday June 30 - Twila, Teresa, Amy, Kim, Sarah, Patree, and Stephanie harvested 84 lbs of onions, 5 lbs tomato, 7 lbs eggplant, 6 lbs cucumber and hot pepper, 6 lbs green tomato. Patree delivered 30 lbs to the Collierville Food Pantry, 78 lbs to Resurrection Catholic School. Suckered the celebrity tomato plants and added an extra stake for support. Weeded in plots 1, 4, 5. Trellised up some of the cowpea vines. Moved last of promix/compost into plot 5. Watered all tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers with diluted fish emulsion. Topped sweet potato bins with dirt/compost. Discussed new logo/artwork for CVG created by Sarah.
