12 lbs to a family in need

10 lbs (plus 26 lbs of previously harvested sweet potato and tomato) to Resurrection Catholic School in Memphis
9 lb of sweet potato from plot 2 (held for future harvest) and 3 lb of tomato trial tomatoes

Work Progress:
 
On Monday August 15 - Teresa, Patree, Stephanie. 12 lb harvest of eggplant, okra, cucumber, tomtato, pepper, cantaloupe (plus a few sweet potato and tomato) given to a family in need. Patree delivered. Harvested 9 lb of sweet potato out of large, super-wet concrete block bed in plot 2. Noticed many, many sweet potato tops growing in bins were eaten by some “furry critter”. Harvested 2 grafted celebrity tomatoes (0.5 lb) and 8 ungrafted celebrity tomatoes (2.5 lb).

On Tuesday August 16 - Teresa and Stephanie harvested 15 bouquets of zinnia. Teresa delivered to the Collierville Library and Page Robbins Adult Day Center. Stephanie planted 9 Aubervilliers cabbage seeds in plot 4 raised bed closest to the back west gate, underneath okra. Teresa harvested 2 more zinnia bouquets and delivered to Collierville Christian Church.
On Wednesday August 17 - Twila and Jan worked in compost and perennial beds. Stephanie earned an imaginary master gardener merit badge by "disposing of" a “big nasty” critter caught in a live trap at the garden…. it wasn’t a chipmunk.

On Thursday August 18 - Twila, Stephanie, Patree, Leah harvested 10 lbs of okra, eggplant, peppers, tomato. Patree delivered that harvest plus 26 lbs of previously harvested sweet potato and tomato to Resurrection Catholic School. Pulled last of the Vardaman sweet potato vines in plot 3 to get ready for Fall planting. Stephanie and Twila bought 2 wagons for the garden from Lowes.

On Saturday August 20 - Stephanie worked on toilet paper seed “packets” for fall planting.

On Sunday August 21 - Stephanie’s son CJ assembled the two new garden wagons

Work Progress:


On Monday August 8 - Arlene, Teresa, Patree, Janet K., Stephanie harvested 11 lb okra, tomato, pepper, eggplant. Delana picked up 40 lbs total for Fayette County Project Outreach. Harvested 51 lbs of Vardaman sweet potato out of two plot 3 raised beds, held for drying/curing. Reserved 3 buckets of sweet potato leaves for composting.


On Thursday August 11 - Leah, Twila, Patree, Teresa, Stephanie harvested 8 lb of peppers, okra, tomato, eggplant. Patree delivered 22 lb total the Collierville Food Pantry. Harvested 47 lb of Vardaman sweet potato out of last 2 raised beds in plot 3, held for drying/curing. Reserved 3 more buckets of sweet potato leaves for composting. Harvested 4.5 lb celebrity grafted tomato (12 count) plus 7 critter/insect eaten ones, harvested 5 lb celebrity ungrafted tomato (11 count) plot 2 critter/insect eaten ones. Planted Hilton chinese cabbage seeds in plot 4 raised bed near compost area and center concrete block raised bed in plot 5.






On Friday August 12 - Jan and Twila worked in the compost area and zinnia beds— deadheaded and trimmed zinnia plants to aid in air flow/minimize fungal disease. Fertilized zinnia beds with 0-45-0. Found butterfly eggs and very tiny caterpillars in parsley and butterfly weed.

Work Progress:
 
On Monday August 1 - Arlene, Teresa, Stephanie, Patree, Twila - harvested 7 lbs for a family in need. Patree delivered. Harvested 6 celebrity grafted tomatoes (3.5 lb) and picked/disposed of 14 additional celebrity grafted tomatoes due to furry critter and/or insect damage. Harvested 17 celebrity ungrafted tomatoes (9.5 lb) and picked/disposed of 18 additional celebrity ungrafted tomatoes due to furry critter and/or insect damage. Picked/disposed of 3 homestead ungrafted tomatoes due to furry critter and/or insect damage. Harvested two plot 3 boxes of Vardaman sweet potatoes- 38 lbs. 


On Tuesday August 2 - Teresa and Riley harvested and delivered 9 bouquets of zinnia to Page Robbins Adult Day Center and 2 bouquets of zinnia to the Collierville Library. Stephanie picked up some copper sulfate for the homestead trial tomato plants.

On Wednesday August 3 - Twila and Jan worked on compost and trimmed/deadheaded perennials and zinnia.

On Thursday August 4 - Arlene, Leah, Kim, Teresa, Patree, Stephanie, Mary - harvested 10 lb cucumber, eggplant cantaloupe; 1.5 lb okra and green bean, 5.5 lb peppers, 4 lb tomato, 3 lb swiss chard. Patree delivered this 24 lb plus last week’s sweet potato plus some hardback children’s books and some snacks to the Resurrection Catholic School. Harvested 9 grafted celebrity tomatoes (3 lb) and picked/disposed of 4 additional celebrity grafted tomatoes due to furry critter and/or insect (stink bug?) damage. Harvested 10 ungrafted celebrity tomatoes plus picked/disposed of 1 additional celebrity ungrafted tomato due to furry critter and/or insect damage. Sprayed copper sulfate on all homestead tomato plants.

On Friday August 5 - Stephanie updated blog sidebar. Hand watered archway boxes.

On Sunday August 7 - Stephanie harvested 12 grafted celebrity tomatoes (4.5 lb) and picked/disposed of 2 additional celebrity grafted tomatoes due to furry critter and/or insect damage. Harvested 19 ungrafted celebrity tomatoes (5.5 lb) and picked/disposed of 2 additional celebrity grafted tomatoes due to furry critter and/or insect damage.

“Coat and Jacket” cowpeas/field peas fighting for space with the Vardaman sweet potatoes. (Good/Bad news is the “furry critters” seem to prefer the ripening cow peas over the tomatoes…)
